REACH Classroom
The REACH (Responsibility - Equality - Accountability - Character - Hope) Program in Glenn County serves as a multifaceted alternative education setting designed to accommodate students from various backgrounds requiring non-traditional educational pathways. This program is structured to support students through four distinct referral categories, each tailored to meet specific needs and circumstances. Enrollment in the REACH Program and, by extension, William Finch Charter School is entirely voluntary. Parents must actively choose this option for their child, signifying their consent and willingness to engage with the program's offerings.
Expulsion
Students who have been expelled from their regular schools due to disciplinary actions may enroll in REACH. For families opting into the REACH Program following a student's expulsion, the enrollment process involves willingly choosing to enroll in the William Finch Charter School, where the REACH Program is administered.
Pre-Expulsion
The REACH Program serves as an alternative educational setting for students who, despite receiving multiple levels of support, have not yet succeeded in their home districts. It is designed to provide a supportive and constructive learning environment that upholds high expectations for both behavior and academics. This ensures that students remain actively engaged and continue their education effectively while pending a board hearing.
Involuntary Transfer
For students on a SARB contract and/or on probation (formal or informal), the REACH classroom provides a structured educational setting that can support their unique legal and personal development requirements. When a student is referred by the SARB Board or on probation or parole probation (pursuant to Ed Code 1981 (b)(c), 1981.5; Welfare and Institutions Code sections 300, 601, 602, 654), he/she may enroll in the REACH program.
Parent Request
As outlined in Ed Code 1981(d), a student may enroll in the REACH classroom if the school district of residence approves the placement based on the parent or guardian's request. Consideration for enrollment may include factors such as academic standing, attendance records, and discipline history. This process ensures that parent-initiated referrals are thoughtfully reviewed by both the district and county, providing a supportive option for students who may benefit from a more structured and responsive learning environment.
