YES Program

The Glenn County Office of Education has made the difficult decision to suspend the Fall Youth Employment Services Program due to financial constraints, uncertain budget cuts, and low enrollment trends. This decision was not taken lightly but was based on careful consideration of recent years' declining class sizes, limited funding for student wages, and staffing changes.

We recognize the impact this may have on students and our partner agencies who collaborate to serve program participants. However, without sufficient funding to sustain the program and cover student and staff wages, we cannot equitably maintain the program at this time.

Future Considerations
We will reassess the possibility of a Spring Cohort in 2025 if there are significant changes in funding contributions and a substantial increase in student interest. In the meantime, we are exploring new initiatives through the Community Schools Initiative to develop programs that better address the needs of our youth and communities.

Alternative Resources
While the Fall program is suspended, we encourage students to explore other local employment and skill-building opportunities. Some options may include:

  • Seeking part-time jobs with local businesses
  • Volunteering with community organizations
  • Participating in school-based extracurricular activities

We remain committed to supporting our youth and will continue to work towards providing valuable opportunities for their growth and development.
