Accessibility Resources
Glenn County Office of Education is committed to keeping up with the latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, known as WCAG 2.0, which were established by the World Wide Web Consortium, an international community with the purpose of providing web accessibility.
WCAG 2.0 covers a wide range of recommendations to make Web content more accessible for individuals with disabilities, including those experiencing blindness and low vision, hearing loss, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, limited movement and photo sensitivity. These guidelines are intended to enhance the experience for all users.
Principles of Accessibility
There are four primary principles that were established by this world wide web consortium: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust.
Perceivable
Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive. This means that users must be able to perceive the information being presented.
Operable
User interface components and navigation must be operable. Visitors must be able to operate the interface. The interface cannot require interaction that a user cannot perform.
Understandable
Information and the operation of user interface must be understandable. This means that visitor must be able to understand the information as well as the operation of the user interface. The content or operation cannot be beyond their understanding.
Robust
Content must be robust enough that it can be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of visitors and their devices, including assistive technologies. Visitors must be able to access the content as technologies advance. As technology and devices evolve, the content should remain accessible.
Evaluation and Testing of Content
WebAIM, based out of Utah State University, has developed a WCAG 2.0 Accessibility checklist for WCAG 2.0 compliance. At Glenn County Office of Education, we strive to meet the guidelines set forth on this checklist to make sure we’re meeting or exceeding accessibility requirements.
Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool
WebAIM has also developed a Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool (WAVE) that can test a website for WCAG 2.0 compliance in real time.
Although Glenn County Office of Education strives to ensure accessibility to all on every single page and its entire content, the task is very challenging. We have multiple departments that are tasked in updating their own sections of the website and content. If notice an area on our website that does not meet accessibility requirements, please contact the Technology Department Staff to let us know. We will do our best to update the content.
