After School & Expanded Learning Programs

The Glenn County Office of Education (GCOE) stands as a cornerstone of educational support and innovation in Glenn County, California. This includes programs which occur outside of the standard school day, such as with after school and summer programs, or intersession learning programs. Each of these focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of students through hands-on, engaging learning experiences. The intention of these programs are to be student-centered, results driven, include community partners, and complement–but do not replicate–learning activities in the regular school day and school year.

These programs are an integral part of young people’s education, engaging them in year round learning opportunities that prepare them for college, career, and life.

The Expanded Learning and After School programs of Glenn County are operated independently by their respective districts, with administrative oversight, compliance guidance, and general support from the GCOE Office of Educational Services. The GCOE is the grantee of funding to these programs, provided through the CDE’s After School Education & Safety Grant (ASES), otherwise known as Prop 49, and Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) funding. Funding is also provided by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Program, a federal initiative.

PROGRAM GOALS

To assist students in grades TK - 8 in achieving academic success through expanded learning opportunities.

Provide educational, enrichment, and structured recreational opportunities to improve student skills and success in academics, physical and emotional health and safety, the arts, recreation, entrepreneurial ventures, civic engagement, and technology.
Build confidence and independence in students throughout the community.
Provide a safe place for children every day after school concludes, including some intersession days.
Provide positive, consistent, and structured adult supervision.
Teach children conflict resolution and communication skills.
Provide tutoring and homework assistance to support day-time learning goals.
Provide opportunities to learn new skills, with special consideration for STEM programs.
Develop foundational skills for future career opportunities.
Provide fun and engaging programming, both during the school year and over summer break.
