Special Education

Glenn County SELPATop of Page

State and federal law ensures that "all individuals from birth to age 22 with exceptional needs have available to them a free appropriate public education and related services to meet their unique needs".

In Glenn County, we are committed to providing these services to all qualified handicapped students to maximize their success throughout life.  Programs providing services fall under the umbrella of Glenn County SELPA, which is the Special Education Local Planning Area.

The Glenn County SELPA oversees and is responsible for assuring that responsible districts or local education agencies comply with laws and regulations related to education for handicapped students.

Special Education AgenciesTop of Page

Within Glenn County SELPA, special education services are provided by two agencies:

Orland Unified School District – Serving special needs students within the Orland school boundaries, with the exception of severely handicapped and low incident students, who are served by the Glenn County Office of Education.  For questions regarding students served by Orland schools, please phone Orland Special Programs at (530) 865-1245.

Glenn County Office of Education - Serving special needs students in all other districts within Glenn County, including Hamilton Elementary, Hamilton High School, Princeton, Lake, Plaza, Capay, Willows, Stony Creek Unified and portions of Orland School District.  For questions regarding students served by Glenn County Office of Education, please phone (530) 934-6575 ext. 17.

Due to the rural and small nature of our region, in rare cases our students are served in programs outside of our SELPA boundaries. Our first priority is always to serve students as close to their home as possible.
