| Q: | What is Glenn County ROP? |
| A: | The Glenn County Regional Occupational Program is a career preparation training agency that provides classroom and on-the-job training for high school juniors and seniors (at least 16 years of age) and adults. This program is beneficial to high school students looking to train for a career after high school or for those wishing to explore a career field before pursuing higher education in that field. This program is also beneficial to adults looking to start a career, to make a career change or to build skills for their current job. |
| Q: | How does ROP work? |
| A: | Most classes are Monday through Friday, two to three hours a day, mornings or afternoons, for one or two semesters. Some classes are taught entirely in a classroom/lab, while others are partially taught in a classroom/lab along with an "on-the-job" training internship for students at a local business. |
| Q: | Why should I enroll in ROP? |
| A: | You've heard the saying, "To get the job you need experience; to get experience you need the job." Glenn County ROP will provide you the hands-on skills needed to pursue a rewarding career in the occupation of your choice. Glenn County ROP is well respected by the local business community. As such, students who have successfully completed an ROP class have a better chance of being hired over someone with little or no hands-on experience in a given occupation. All ROP instructors have industry/business experience, and are known throughout the local business community. They can often assist their students in getting jobs in a competitive job market. Studies indicate that college students who have taken ROP graduate quicker, change their college major less often, and do better in their college classes. |
| Q: | How long are the classes and when do they begin? |
| A: | Our classes follow the high school calendar. Traditionally, fall semester begins mid- to late August and spring semester begins in January. Most classes are open to new students both spring and fall semesters. |
| Q: | How can I enroll? |
| A: | High School students can pre-enroll with their high school counselors before fall and spring semesters, when they are registering for their regular high school classes. Adults can pre-enroll in May for the fall semester, and in December for the spring semester. |
| Q: | How do I qualify? |
| A: | High school students must be at least 16 years old and a high school junior or senior. Adult students of all ages are welcome. There is no qualifying income level. There is no county residency requirement. |
| Q: | How much does it cost? |
| A: | All Glenn County ROP classes are free. |
| Q: | Will I earn high school credit? |
| A: | High school credit is awarded by the high schools and is based upon the number of hours associated with each ROP class. |
| Q: | Can I receive college credit? |
| A: | Some of our classes articulate with Butte or Yuba Community Colleges. Students who successfully complete a Glenn County ROP class may receive a Letter of Articulation Certification from the instructor. The Letter of Articulation Certification can be used to petition the community college for college credit associated with the completed ROP class. |
| Q: | Can I get a job after I complete an ROP class? |
| A: | Students who earn an ROP Certificate of Completion are prepared to enter the job market. Although there are no job placement services provided by Glenn County ROP, many students who train in local businesses receive job offers after completing their class. The 2001-02 school year student follow-up study revealed that approximately 87% of students who successfully completed an ROP course and graduated from high school were employed and/or continued their education. |
| Q: | How can I become an ROP business partner? |
| A: | Instructors work individually with local businesses to create internships for their classes. Interested businesses can call 530-934-6320, ext. 3151, and ask for the name and phone number of the Instructor associated with their business needs. Instructors will contract and work with businesses to insure that students are assigned to an appropriate training experience. |
