| | The mission of the Foster Youth Services Program is to help foster youth in pursuing educational success. | |

| | The Foster Youth Services Program (FYS) in Glenn County is designed to serve the unique educational needs of youth residing in a group or foster home. The coordinator will meet with students independently to create an educational plan for their success. This plan will include: - educational goals
- life goals
- social activities
- work experieces
- ROP classes
- transitional services
Students will work towards their goals, obtaining incentive points along the way. These points may be used towards activities that promote youth development, social skills and self advocacy. | |

Foster Youth Services will: - develop and maintain an "Educational Passport" for each child entering the foster care sytem, with information necessary for that child's school placement.
- assist foster youth in obtaining school records to assist in the enrollment process, making sure that each student's educational rights are being upheld.
- identify resources and collaborate with existing agencies to offer services for children and families in the foster care system in pursuing educational success.
- participate on the SARB review board for all foster youth students, when required.
- help reduce discipline problems, truancy and dropout rate by getting students connected to the school throgh activities such as Friday Night Live, FFA, sports, service clubs, peer tutoring and band.
- provide positive activities that promote self-advocacy, youth development and positive social skills,

| | Due to the mobile nature of youth in foster care, school records and transcripts are often lost, leading to unmet educational needs. This program will help students and parents in obtaining school records to assist in the enrollment process and ensure that all foster youth students get the appropriate free public education that meets their particular needs. | |

| | Foster Youth Services has operated in some California counties since 1973. The Glenn County FYS program began in 2002.
The program is administered by the Glenn County Office of Education Healthy Kids Program and works in collaboration with many agencies, including: - Human Resource Agency
