Our MissionTop of Page

The Glenn County Children and Families Commission is committed to providing and/or enhancing quality services for all Glenn County children (prenatal to age five) and their families through a comprehensive, integrated and accessible system of early childhood development services.

Our VisionTop of Page

Children in Glenn County will thrive in supportive, nurturing and loving families and communities and be positively prepared to enter school ton become productive well-adjusted members of society.

Our PurposeTop of Page

First 5 Glenn County makes vital decisions to improve the lives of children ages 0 to 5 and their families. First 5 Glenn County funds education, health, childcare and other programs that promote early childhood development.

BackgroundTop of Page

In 1998, California voters passed Proposition 10, which added a fifty-cent per pack tax on cigarettes to support programs for expectant parents and children ages 0 to 5. This decision was based on research that shows that a child’s brain develops most dramatically in the first five years and what parents and caregivers do during these years to support a child’s growth will have a meaningful impact throughout life. First Five Glenn County distributes approximately $300,000 in Proposition 10 revenues to programs and services that meet local needs for expectant parents and children in their first five years of life.
