| | The 2008-2009 Autism Series for Basic Competency in Autism Spectrum Disorders This series is designed for parents and educators working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is designed as a comprehensive series to allow participants to demonstrate their competency in autism through lecture, discussion, hands-on activities, and written exercises. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to attend the full series to receive a Basic Competency in Autism Spectrum Disorders Certificate recognized by Northern California’s Region II SELPAs. This series is designed for Special and General Educators, particularly those new to autism, parents, paraprofessionals, and other support staff. The training series will be presented in an innovative manner: through videoconferencing. Counties will rotate as the host and lead trainer and participants may attend any of the following locations: Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity counties. All sessions will be held 3:00-5:30pm. - Understanding Special Education: What Paraeducators Need to Know
Paraeducators are critical members of the teaching team. It is important that paraeducators understand the important role they play when serving special education students. Participants attending this workshop will: - Develop a deeper understanding of Special Education and General Education mandates
- Be introduced to the unique characteristics of the 13 federal handicapping conditions
- Learn interventions and strategies that promote student success
Training will be held at Glenn County Office of Education Orland Administration Building in Lemon Home Conference Room.
